    What is it?
    Chevrolet Cavalier 220 Turbo

    What's special about it?
This Cavalier coupe is powered by a turbocharged version of GM's new 2.2-liter Ecotech four-cylinder. Considering that the current Cavalier is already one of the fastest economy sport coupes around with only 150 horsepower, this 220-hp version would have no trouble dusting off pesky Civic Sis and Sentra SE-Rs.

In addition to the potent powerplant under the hood, the 220 Turbo wears revised front and rear fascias, body side moldings, a ram air hood and a rear spoiler. Nineteen-inch Racing Hart wheels and a Borla exhaust complete the street machine look.

    Why should you care?
GM's 2.2-liter Ecotech engine is the company's four-cylinder of the future. If GM wants to compete with the Japanese for the young enthusiast dollar, it'll have to demonstrate the performance potential of its new global powerplant. The turbo 220 is a good start toward establishing the Ecotech as a viable performance alternative to the likes of Honda's and Nissan's four-cylinders. —Ed Hellwig
