2011 Chevrolet Caprice Detective Package's Cover Blown

    Just the Facts:
    • 2011 Chevrolet Caprice Detective Package info leaks on the Internet.
    • Like the police cruiser, the detective version uses a 355-horsepower V8.
    • The special Caprice is not available to the general public.

DETROIT — Buried inside the tech manual for the 2011 Chevrolet Caprice police model, just out from General Motors, is an intriguing look at the not-yet-seen Detective Package. The 2011 PPV police cruiser was announced months ago, but the separate Detective Package image wasn't shown until a complete PDF document of the car's features was promulgated on the Internet.

The plainclothes cruiser shares the basic setup of the Police PPV, including an E85-capable 6.0-liter V8 engine that makes 355 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Although the Detective Package comes in a consumer-friendly seven color choices — and has comforts lacking in the police pursuit version including a front console with cupholder and a cloth rear seat instead of the available vinyl bench of the police model — it's not for sale to the general public.

Not sure what is up GM's rear on not selling this as a passenger car to the average US consumer other than their usual marketing stupidity. When the car started into production, some dealers back East actually ordered and sold a few of these in civilian trim. Why not? There was great demand! Imagine! A powerful 4-door passenger car with a V8 and room for just about everything including people. However, GM later told these dealers to cease and decist. Can't have this car competing with our turd of a Camaro. Good luck with that one Generally-disarrayed Motors!

Government Motors killed Pontiac but must live up to their agreement with Holden.
The Volt is a joke and Chevrolet needs to rethink the Camaro because it isn't selling.
Holden is selling cars in Europe that compete with Mercedes at a lower price and better performance. GM has the power plants but little or no designers that understand Detroit Iron. The Mustang is going to eat their lunch with the new 5.0 and GM had better do something now, not later. Meanwhile I enjoy my 2009 G8 GT.

It will be cool to see another Holden stateside even if only cops can drive them.  Kinda tired of looking at the tirelessly old current generation Ford Crown Victoria that is now what....18 years old!!!!

You don't really use them that much for surveillance.  You  use generic vehicles for surveillance (vans & cars similar to rental cars work well).  It's just much easier if your unmarked cars that the detectives & brass use can still use the same parts (for costs reasons) as the regular patrol cars, & be pursuit rated to assist the street cops when needed & survive the abuse.  They don't have to be outfitted w/all the equipment that squads have to have & they are easier to resell.  It's also nice when they're the same as the squads so they drive the same.  Also, they look pretty unremarkable so most people won't even notice them.

This is the holden caprice in OZ, Think pontiac G8 stretched to 5.4 metre's same hardware and drivetrains, and simple front and rear facia differences. the caprice here is considered a luxury car slotted below the statesman, This is what the australian government/police force drives also just with a chevy grill and badges, well of course the steering is wheel swapped over too.

Its really too bad its not for the general public, its a very nice looking car. It could be the base for a pretty awesome SS, too.
