    Just the Facts:
    • Cars from baseball great Reggie Jackson's collection will be auctioned in Monterey.
    • Fifteen cars owned by Jackson will cross Mecum's block in mid-August.
    • Included is a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro.

MONTEREY, California — Reggie Jackson's moniker of "Mr. October" was well earned in World Series past, but this year he will be "Mr. August" as a wide swath of his car collection goes on the block August 13-14 at the Mecum Monterey Auction.

Among the 15 muscle cars and curiosities up for sale, there's an original-engined 1969 ZL1 COPO Camaro. Jackson rebuilt the engine himself under the supervision of Chevrolet racer Lamar Walden. The car has the original M21 four-speed transmission, power disc brakes, spoilers, Rally wheels and soft-ray tinted glass, too.

A more unorthodox offering is a 1941 Willys Steel Coupe with many tuner modifications, including a coil-over suspension, an Outlaw Performance front end, fiberglass rear fenders and Wilwood four-wheel disc brakes. The engine is a supercharged 426-cid Hemi mated to a Chevrolet Turbo 400 automatic transmission.

Another is a Max Wedge Stage II Plymouth Savoy sedan from 1963. Jackson's Web site suggests its value as ranging from $90,000-$110,000.

It's not all muscle in the Jackson sale, though: There are two early Volkswagen Beetles on offer, a 1962 with four-speed in a fetching shade of Band-Aid pink, and a restored '59 in sober black with the oval rear window. Jackson has owned that one for almost 30 years.

The Reggie Jackson Collection can be viewed on Mecum's Web site. The auction will be held at the Hyatt Regency Monterey Hotel & Spa.

If the new Camaro looked more like this one, I'd be driving one. That Plymouth Bros ain't bad either.
