DETROIT — A Military Tribute Chevrolet Camaro will cross the auction block in January, with proceeds benefiting the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.

The silver Camaro features the American flag and an eagle on the hood, a battle scene on the side panel and the words "Strength and Honor" under the rear spoiler. The car's artwork, which honors all branches of the armed forces, also features a battleship, a jet and a helicopter.

The car will be featured in a CBS Sports segment during Saturday's Army-Navy Game. GM CEO Dan Akerson is a U.S. Naval Academy graduate, noted GM in a statement on Friday.

The Achilles Freedom Team helps wounded veterans overcome their injuries through "mainstream athletics, primarily marathons," said GM.

The Camaro will be sold by Barrett-Jackson at its January 17-22 event in Scottsdale, Arizona. The car was designed by Mickey Harris, whom GM said has an "extensive portfolio of military art."

Inside Line says: A perfect Camaro for the patriotic.

I respect the fact that this was done to honor our men and women of the armed forces.  I worked for the Army for 8 years and I learned to respect what these men and women do for this country. the LEAST we can do is to continually honor their sacrifices and commemorate their efforts.

When the "war" is over, it's not over for our military men and women.  Guy, you don't have a clue about how much our warriors do for us in war and peace time.  Let me ask you, have you ever stopped a person in uniform at the airport to thank them for their service?

The intent is good, but haven't there already been a few "military tribute" vehicles at the auction over the years?

Is this last one now that the war is over? The article mentions artwork, so if this is an airbrush job, then the car is a real conversation piece. If its a vinyl wrap, then not so much.

So joe_scuba, the Camaro is an import eh?  I guess so along with a lot of other vehicles north of the border. Remember, we are in a so-called "free trade" agreement.  What will you think when the Chinese starting bringing their cars into your country?

I'd be very concerned about that.

So, you really gonna drive this on the street?

It's more of an insult if you ask me, a imported car like the Camaro with thew American flag is an insult.
    What's patriotic about imports.
