Lingenfelter Camaro and Corvette GTR: 2010 Chicago Auto Show

DECATUR, Indiana — Lingenfelter Performance Engineering (LPE) is set to show off its forced-induction 2010 Camaro SS and Corvette GTR at the 2010 Chicago Auto Show.

The tuner starts by outfitting the Camaro with a supercharged 7.0-liter LS7 power plant that makes 750 horsepower, and continues by adding a Corsa performance exhaust system as well as upgraded brakes. Exterior changes include a front fascia splitter, rocker extensions, new hood, custom wheels and carbon-fiber grille, rear lip and spoiler. LPE finishes off the package with a revamped interior — and notes that the vehicle was awarded the General Motors Design Award for Best Sports Car during the 2009 SEMA Show.

The second vehicle on display will be Lingenfelter's Twin Turbo Corvette. It gets a twin-turbocharged LS7 engine that is even more powerful than the Camaro with an estimated 800 hp. The tuner modifies the exterior with aero parts from Specter Werkes and custom HRE carbon-fiber wheels. Other upgrades include Stoptech brakes, a Corsa exhaust and an interior spiced up by Spinneybeck.

The 102nd Chicago Auto Show will run February 12-21 at McCormick Place, and the Lingenfelter Camaro and Corvette GTR will be on display at the Greater Chicago Chevrolet Dealers/Chicago Blackhawks Family Fun Zone booth.

Inside Line says: Lingenfelter modifies these two vehicles with a very aggressive look and more horsepower than most would know what to do with. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent

"Yes, hello, Geico? I would like to get a price quote on an 800 horsepower Corvette, please"?
Actually I would be interested to know how insurance companies are veiwing this latest crop of sports cars that utilize very expensive, exotic materials such as the Corvette's carbon fiber fenders, M3's carbon fiber roof, etc.
