- The HPE1000 Twin-Turbo spits out 1,021 horsepower, thanks to completely redone internals.
- It gets a 7.0-liter LSX power plant, twin ball-bearing turbochargers, forged low-compression pistons, a stainless-steel freer-flowing exhaust and a lot more go-fast goodies.
- The Texas tuner is also offering less powerful 600, 650, 700 and 800 hp variants.
SEALY, Texas — If you thought the 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 was already powerful enough with its 6.2-liter supercharged V8 making 580 horses and 556 pound-feet of torque, Hennessey Performance Engineering surely disagrees. The tuner just released its plans for a variety of upgrade kits for the Chevy supecar with the top performer developing 1,021 horsepower.
The flagship tuning kit, called the HPE1000 Twin Turbo, will lay down a reported 1,021 horsepower at 6,400 rpm. Completely redone internals, which includes the installation of a 7.0-liter LSX power plant, forged low-compression pistons, new connecting rods, camshaft, Callies 4340 forged steel crank, high-flow cylinder heads and an upgraded fuel system with new injectors, are credited for the substantial increase in power.
A twin ball-bearing turbo system with dual wastegates, an electronic boost controller, air-to-air intercooler and completely redone stainless-steel exhaust system takes the setup to the next level. The only transmission offered for the car will be a manual setup with a Centerforce dual friction clutch.
Non-performance items include HPE1000 exterior badging, serial-numbered dash and engine plaques, floor mats and embroidered headrests.
For those looking for slightly more manageable amounts of output, HPE is also offering 600, 650, 700 and 800 hp variants.
Orders will begin in late 2011, and all cars will come with a 1-year/12,000-mile limited warranty. The upgrade is not compliant with California emissions laws.
Inside Line says: Hennessey's package elevates Chevy's ZL1 to supercar status — if it wasn't there already.

I really don't believe the camaro can handle that much power, much less use it. The article doesn't say anything about upgrading the traction control or limited slip differential. This car is a waste in my opinion. I will agree with an earlier statement, it's more about ego than anything else. And another, why drop the change for a ZL1 when really all you are doing is swapping the motor and adding turbos, and I really love other guys who come on an article about camaro's, ( or any other sports car for that matter) and all they talk about is their ZR1. I think Chevy is doing the right thing with bring the ZL1 to production, because with it, Ford will step up and make a better GT500. And thus so will Dodge and the Challenger. Competition is a good thing.

The engine plaques, floor mats and exterior badging should further help the handling with all that extra power. Who needs brakes anyway.

A car is the sum of its parts, not just the engine.

"It's like calling tanner foust's fiesta a super car"
- His Fiesta surely is a super car. I'd prefer to a "gtr, zr1 corvette" anyday

BTW, if you're scrapping the 6.2, and scrapping the supercharger for their own twin turbochargers, what do you need to bring a ZL1 for? Why can't they do this with a V6 and a brake kit?

Not strong enough for Black Dynamite. Nice try, though......
Maybe enough for White Dynamite (AKA Chuck Norris)?

Hennessey also offers similar packages for the ZR1 and other Corvettes. And of course, a similarly equipped Vette being lighter, will make for faster times than the Camaro.
I have a 2010 ZR1 which has 638 horsepower and I'm really not desiring more. Believe me, when that supercharger boost kicks in and pins me back in my seat, more power is the last thing on my mind. And I'm really thrilled about the ZR1's handling. After a few days to build skill and confidence at the track, I was taking curves and turns at speeds I never thought possible. It's like some unknown force is holding my ZR1 to the road. I am certain I would give up some of that great handling with a Camero.
But it's good to see little bro grow up. Chevy Runs Deep.

In the end, it's still being sold by a proven shady businessman. Caveat emptor bitches, Hennessey is not someone you want to buy from.

Damn, a twin turbo. That thing must be fast as hell now. If you don't know how a turbo works, this article gives a great explanation on it.
