    DETROIT — A Camaro fan site has leaked the official Chevrolet Dealer Reference Guide for the new 2012 Camaro ZL1 — and we have all the details.

    The 18-page ordering guide was uploaded by Camaro5.com, with details posted by Anna Bearinger of Michigan-based Sparta Chevrolet.

    Among the information on specs, equipment and options, we learn that the ZL1's exterior dimensions are close to those of the Camaro SS, but the ZL1 weighs more than 250 pounds more than the SS — roughly 4,120 pounds.

    That shouldn't be a terrible imposition for the ZL1's supercharged, 6.2-liter LSA V8, which is rated at 580 horsepower and 556 pound-feet of torque, making this the most powerful Camaro ever. Transmission choices include a Tremec TR-6060 six-speed manual gearbox and a THM six-speed automatic with TAPshift steering-wheel controls.

    The ZL1 features Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires, sized P285/35ZR20 in front and P305/35ZR20 in the rear, mounted on a choice of two 20-inch forged alloy wheels: a 10-spoke design with a low-gloss clearcoat finish, as well as five-spoke pattern with a polished face and high-gloss clearcoat.

    Exterior colors are similar to those offered on the Camaro SS, plus a new hue — Crystal Red Tintcoat. Other choices include Black, Ashen Gray, Imperial Blue Metallic, Inferno Orange Metallic, Rally Yellow, Silver Ice Metallic, Summit White and Victory Red. A stripe package, a power sunroof and exposed-weave carbon-fiber hood inserts are among the exterior options.

    The cockpit of the ZL1 features heated leather high-performance seats with microfiber suede inserts and six-way power controls for driver and passenger, as well as alloy pedal covers, an auxiliary gauge four-pack with boost readout, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, a premium Boston Acoustics nine-speaker audio system, rear park assist and rear camera display in the mirror.

    Inside Line says: Look for the ZL1 to arrive in Chevy showrooms early next year, priced from just over $50,000.

    30 years of racing and having fun, I have yet to see the guy with the best car on paper ever stand out...

    These cars are about "what I want to drive" as the real racers will never purchase one except to drive to the store and back.

    Car sounds great but I have a new SRT8 Challenger and it might be heavier, slower and less power but I love driving the thing..

    I have go fast available when ever I want that would lay waste to any of these street machines but I found that the Pentastar group paid best homage to the classic..

    In 5 years, I am betting the Camaro will look dated and the Challenger is still going to make them swoon...

    Now, pull your pants up and buy what you can afford or want.. (I hope they are both one in the same)

    Chevy made a great move with this one. Good looks and performance.  I'm certain this will blow the doors off a lot of stangs and Challengers. Now it won't beat a ZR1 around Nürburgring, but it is a cool car. However, personally I like the performance and handling of my ZR1 better.

    It's good to see little bro grow up. Chevy Runs Deep.

    Great... even M6 with all the niceties and sound/thermal insulation weighs less. This thing's a pig.

    It looks good, but I 'd rather have a CTS-V.

    julianb, Yes, the ZL1 has a lot of value, and for those seeking muscle car era kicks, it's especially valuable. I am not thrilled with the Camaro's appearance, and for that reason, even if I had the cash to buy one, I would not. That being said, I'm sure that GM will sell 'em all to those enthusiasts who've been waiting decades for the 21st century's answer to the Yenko Camaro.

    No I didn't forget the live axle on the Boss 302, which handles much better than the GT500. Obviously the oss has suspension upgrades that the GT500 doesn't have. But I can say my "Live axle and all" comment was a little misleading.

    But yeah WE WILL SEE...

    @julianb,

    Ok we'll see. I'm sure your buddies said the same thing about the Camaro SS vs. Mustang 5.0. And we all know who has one that battle.

    We'll see this spring when these bad boys hit the dealerships. Ford has proven time and time again that their live axle tuning works. I guess you forgot all about the Boss 302.

    @saunupe1911

    It won't matter that the Mustang will get 600-620 HP, there will be no change in its Suspension (Live axle and all)!!! So the car doesn't have the Traction Efficiency to make use of all that HP on the track.

    I'm not trying to make you guys look stupid or anything it's just I see so much misguided and unrealistic comments. I'm an engineer in Detroit so I do have an edge in understanding this stuff and realize those who aren't very technically inclined might be misguided.

    For example if everybody had my understanding of car tech, Ford would NOT make a Mustang with 600-620 HP without upgrading the suspension.

    What they say in Europe, "Power is nothing without control." That "control" they're referring to is Traction. However, there are other things that help HP at the crank reach the pavement, which I layed out earlier.

    I'm sure I could fnind a used GTO and boost it and have thousands left to beat all the cars listed here.  Best thing about the GTO is, it isn't flashy.  The ZL1 looks good but really 4000lbs?  The GT-R is 3900 and it's AWD.  Come on GM.
