- Hennessey upgrades the 2010 Camaro SS to make 1,000 horsepower.
- The new HPE1000 costs $65,000, plus the cost of the Camaro SS.
- Hennessey's Camaro packages vary from the normally aspirated 475-hp HPE475 to the twin-turbo 815-hp HPE800.
SEALY, Texas — Hennessey Performance Engineering has just upped the American muscle-car ante, with its new HPE1000 — a 1,000-horsepower twin-turbo upgrade available on the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS.
Owner John Hennessey tells IL: "Send us your Camaro SS, along with $65,000, and eight weeks later you'll be able to do burnouts at 100 mph!"
Dubbed "the Big Bad American Wolf," the HPE1000 upgrade starts with the 7.0-liter LSX V8 and adds a pair of turbochargers and air-to-air intercoolers, high-flow cylinder heads, forged aluminum pistons, forged steel con rods and crank, custom cam, revised intake manifold, fuel system and stainless-steel exhaust.
To handle the engine's 900 pound-feet of torque, Hennessey fits a beefier six-speed manual gearbox with twin-disc clutch. Also available is a heavy-duty six-speed automatic.
The company says it can build a complete car, with 20-inch monoblock wheels, Pirelli P Zero tires, KW adjustable coil-over suspension, Brembo performance brakes and the HPE CarbonAero body kit at a total cost of $125,000.
Hennessey offers a variety of upgrade packages for the 2010-'11 Camaro SS, ranging from the normally aspirated 475-hp HPE475 to the twin-turbo 815-hp HPE800.
Inside Line says: How much is too much? The question doesn't exist in John Hennessey's world. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Just because the car has 1000 Hp and will burn the tires at 100mph guys dont be jealous,Just add your weekend slicks and go drag racing that would keep your tire spinning down.

Ugh, I am so tired on the smug little penny pinchers that always have to post "150k for a Dusenberg 500X? Psssh there are way better cars around for that money", "100k for that?! You could buy 4 Camrys!".
THAT'S NOT THE POINT!

Stop stating the obvious and e-spending other peoples hypothetical money you don't have! Just admire what engineers and tuners can do when they put their minds to it, and realize that if somebody builds a pink VW Beetle slathered in cat leather with a Veyron engine sticking out the back......there's is probably a rich person out there who will buy it, and if there isn't the guys who built it probably had a blast just proving that it could be done.

This or an ACR Viper or ZR-1? For me, it's no contest.
But for someone who has dozens of superfast exotic toys, and loves Camaros, I can see the appeal. Even though it's not what I'd buy even if I were obscenely rich.
I've spun my tires accelerating at 100MPH+ (on a race track) and believe me it's not an experience that I'd want to repeat! Especially on the street or highway.

This looks like something that was concocted on Gran Turismo, albeit much less expensive for the kind of numbers that the HPE1000 produces. This thing is absolutely rediculous, but in a pretty cool way. Burnouts are fun, but at 100mph it would be downright scary. You can get a pretty capable vehicle for $125k. This would be nowhere near the top of my list unless I'm the kind of guy who also loses that kind of money on a weekend in Vegas on gambling, booze and broads...

You have $125,000 and this is the vehicle you choose?? That's a pretty nice price range to be shopping in.

Burnouts @ 100mph is just what we needed.
Put the power the ground , not into tire smoke.
