What is it?
Chevrolet Aveo RS Concept
What's special about it?
What? You're still reading? Didn't you see the top of the page where it says, "Aveo?" You know the Aveo; it's that Korean-conceived little breadbox full of mediocrity.
Well, the vehicle pictured here is not the next Chevrolet Aveo. It is the concept-ized version of the next Chevrolet Aveo. And, yes, Chevrolet is keeping the Aveo line going, even after it introduces the yet-smaller, Korean-conceived Spark. Stranger still, the company is going to keep the Aveo name and try to rehabilitate it in the minds of small-car buyers instead of just making up some other name, such as Nutria or Dengue or Flatus.
We got a sneak peek of the production Aveo a month or so ago and the car actually looks pretty good. We know, we know, but we swear it looks pretty good. With this tarted-up version called the RS, Chevrolet is aiming to introduce to you the idea that an Aveo can be a hot hatch. And so, on goes a color called "Electric Boracay Blue." The fenders get all flared. On go the 19-inch wheels, behind which are brake calipers painted Boracay Blue. Contrasting stitching inside is done in Boracay Blue. We're starting to get the idea that someone in GM Design has recently vacationed in — we don't know — maybe Boracay. Oh, various aspects of the concept are described as being inspired by motorcycles, whatever that might mean.
Anyway, the next-gen Aveo will be built in Orion Township, Michigan, in 2011. And if Chevy is serious about turning a version of the production model into a hot-hatch competitor, it'll want at least as much power as provided by the turbocharged 1.4-liter inline-4 that is under the hood of this concept. Since this 138-horsepower engine will power the forthcoming Cruze sedan, it looks as if all the right pieces are already in place for an Aveo RS in Boracay Blue to make it onto the street.

Decent effort General. Hope you tone down those headlights. When i say that, i dont mean tone down the rest of the car too. Nevermind just build that car!

I've been a GM guy of old and haven't seen too many lately that have thrilled me other than the Corvette. I wished I could have bought a Cobalt SS sedan, but quite a few owners spoke of a list of rattles and squeaks. This car looks frickin awesome! I like it better than my old 06 MKV GTi and the new MKVI GTI! GM, hurry up and produce a hot version! Too bad they aren't thinking 2.0 Ecotec turbo with 260hp! Kudos to GM design, hopefully the drive and quality will match the showstopping good looks.

Correction, the "old"/current version of the Aveo is a Daewoo Gentra/Lanos/Kalos made in Korea by GM Daewoo. Rebadged as Chevy in USA and other countries. Daewoo cars use Holden engines made in Australia and body design by Giugiaro in Italy on most vehicles.

How big is this car? Is this a Honda Fit fighter? I like it.

this thing is awesome for one single solitary reason: The lack of goofy bulbous takes-up-3/4ths-of-the-front-fenders headlights.

If GM leaves it like this, I might buy American. They just have that terrible habit of making something that looks fantastic then puts out something completely unattractive.

Not bad looking for a mini car. My advice/comment is to make this car and make it the base car...I think if you make things that look good and keep the base model looking good they fair better. Make it look like this for all models. Wheels make the car.

Looks promising. But I hope is not another badge car. GM Loves to slap RS & SS on everything.
