2009 Shanghai Auto Show: Chery Karry Viewsonic

SHANGHAI, China — Chery is launching its new Karry sub-brand in China with a new product: the Karry Youpai, or Viewsonic, which has just gone into production in Wuhu and will be formally introduced to the public in mid-April at the 2009 Shanghai Auto Show.

Aimed primarily at small business and other commercial users, the four-door Karry Viewsonic is priced starting at $5,100. The microvan features a tall roof and very little front and rear overhang, so parking should be easy, even in relatively tight spaces.

Power comes from a 1.0-liter engine. Power windows and antilock brakes are among the options.

Chery plans to use the Karry brand name on its growing family of commercial vehicles. Another sub-brand, Riich, is reserved for upscale and sporty models.

Inside Line says: The Karry Viewsonic is awfully cute — and awfully small. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
