SHANGHAI — Chang'an Automobile, which is partnered in China with Ford, Suzuki and Mazda, among others, is launching another self-developed model, a compact sedan called Yuexiang, or Happy Flying.
The Corolla-class four-door is based on the V101 concept that was introduced at the 2008 Beijing Auto Show. Chang'an will market three different trim levels, priced from $8,300-$9,500. A 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine powers all manual-transmission models; a four-speed Aisin automatic transmission will be offered later as an option.
Eventually, the Yuexiang sedan will be joined by a hatchback companion, the company said.
The Yuexiang is one of three Chang'an models, including the Benben and the Zhixiang, that will be assembled in Mexico under an agreement with Grupo Hispanoamericano Autopark. The first batch of knocked-down kits is slated to be shipped to Mexico later this year.
