Will GM Logo Undergo Extreme Makeover?

    0 Ratings
DETROIT — General Motors is dismissing as "pure speculation" that it is poised to change the background color of its corporate logo from blue to green to dramatically illustrate that is leaner and greener as it gets set to emerge from bankruptcy.

Ed Welburn, GM's vice president of design, is heading a group that is considering name and logo changes, according to the Associated Press, but no recommendation has been made. Changing the background of the square blue-and-white GM logo has been discussed, it reported. The logo is sometimes referred to as the Mark of Excellence by the automaker.

Things may become clearer when Welburn makes himself available to the media and the public via a chat session on July 14 at 1:30 p.m. EDT, according to a calendar posting on the GM Reinvention Web site.

When asked about the color change, GM spokesman Tom Wilkinson replied in an e-mailed response to Inside Line that the media reports are "pure speculation."
