Why "Carbon Edition"? you ask. Because Gembella has used an absurd amount of carbon to equip the latest iteration of the Mirage GT inside and out.
The extreme aero body kit — all rendered in carbon fiber — consists of a new front apron with larger air intakes, new hood and front fenders, new side skirts with improved cooling intakes, a new rear skirt with integral diffuser, a larger rear wing with adjustable Gurney flap, and a roof channel and engine compartment air scoop.
The customized cockpit features a carbon-fiber center console and oodles of hand-stitched leather, plus such goodies as a Gemballa sport steering wheel and a multimedia unit.
The tuning house has lavished extra attention on the engine and suspension. The Porsche V10 has been massaged with a reprogrammed ECU and a high-performance exhaust system, bumping output to 661 horsepower and torque to 465 pound-feet. Outfitted with a sport clutch and sport catalysts, the car dashes from zero to 60 mph in less than 3.7 seconds, reaching a terminal velocity of 208 mph.
Under all that slippery carbon-fiber skin, the Mirage GT rides on an electrohydraulic height-adjustable suspension with individually adjustable coil-over shocks and progressive springs at each corner. Body height can be raised by up to 1.8 inches. The Gemballa GT Sport forged alloy rims are shod with 265/35ZR19 rubber in front and 335/30ZR20s in the rear.
Gemballa says customers will have to plunk down around $425,000 each to reserve one of only five copies of the Mirage GT Carbon Edition. One more catch: You have to supply your own donor car.
Inside Line says: For those of you who just may have a spare Carrera GT gathering dust under the carport. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
