Tuner Special: G-Power Hurricane CS

ARESING, Germany — BMW tuning house G-Power is fond of gusty nameplates, from Tornado (M3) to Typhoon (X5). It has reserved the Hurricane moniker for an exclusive pair of über-quick models. The G-Power take on the BMW M5 sedan is known as the Hurricane RS, while the firm's new M6 coupe has been christened Hurricane CS.

What's special about the Hurricane CS? For one, it shares G-Power's specially modified BMW V10 with the Hurricane RS. For the uninitiated, that particular engine has been upgraded — if that's the right word for a modified version of the M-engineered power plant — with the addition of new twin superchargers, forged Mahle pistons and other internal bits, resulting in a modest boost in output to 735 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque.

That translates to a top speed of 231 mph, which G-Power claims makes the Hurricane CS the world's fastest BMW coupe. The 0-60-mph sprint takes less than 4.4 seconds, and should you choose to really wring it out, the Hurricane CS will rocket from rest to 186 mph in a mere 26 seconds.

The street version of the coupe rides on Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tires — 255/30ZR21 in front, 295/25ZR21 in the rear — mounted on Silverstone Diamond wheels.

G-Power fitted such exotic components as a titanium exhaust system, carbon-ceramic brakes and carbon fiber seats, dash and center console. The Hurricane CS also gets a height-adjustable coil-over suspension, plus front and rear stabilizer bars.

A multipiece aero body kit bundles new bumpers, fenders, hood, spoilers and rear diffuser.

Inside Line says: G-Power will build one to order for you — for a cool $478,000. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
