Transformers Sequel Already an IMAX Hit Overseas

LOS ANGELES — When Shia LaBeouf made the confident statement that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen's "first 10 minutes of action trump all action movies this year," he wasn't kidding. The action has already helped the flick post strong international opening results.

Michael Bay, the explosion-addicted director of both the original Transformers and the sequel, filmed certain scenes using special IMAX cameras for the IMAX Experience edition of the movie. With a mere 10 international theaters featuring the IMAX film over the weekend of June 19, $510,000 in revenue was generated, with the 109 Cinemas IMAX Theatre in Kawasaki, Japan grossing a whopping $81,000.

Part of the allure is obviously coming from actress Megan Fox, who plays Mikaela Banes, the uber-tan sexy girlfriend of young hero Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf). You can check out Fox battling baby-Decepticon Wheelie with a blowtorch below:

Both Fox and LaBeouf put everything they had into their Transformers performance, whether it was Fox dealing with painful shinsplints from doing stunts in high heels, or LaBeouf continuing to act after almost losing an eye and working his broken hand (from a car accident) into the plot of the film.

Revenge of the Fallen transforms into U.S. theatres on June 24 — that's midnight tonight.
