BEIJING — Jianghuai Auto, also known in China as JAC, is following up last year's B20 concept MPV with a compact concept crossover dubbed IV. The B-SUV concept will debut later this week at the 2010 Beijing Auto Show.
Designed in Italy, the IV is considerably smaller than the B20 (known generically as the B-MPV) that was unveiled at the 2009 Shanghai show.
The IV is intended as a high-mileage, low-polluting city car, about the size of the Toyota iQ, seating two and powered by a hybrid gas-electric propulsion system.
Better known in China as a producer of minivans, including the popular Hyundai-based Refine, JAC is actively expanding its portfolio into sedans and crossovers.
Last summer, state-owned JAC walked away from a proposed merger with Anhui provincial rival Chery to pursue its own development path.
