Castroneves, a two-time Indianapolis 500 winner, had been temporarily replaced on Team Penske by Australian Will Power, pending the outcome of the case. There was no reaction to the verdict on Castroneves' Web site as of Friday afternoon.
The jury also acquitted his sister on the tax evasion counts but also hung on the conspiracy. Michigan motorsports attorney Alan Miller was acquitted on all three counts of tax evasion and one count of conspiracy.
The jury deliberated for six days, following a six-week trial. Castroneves' attorney Roy Black told jurors in closing arguments that his client had only a rudimentary understanding of his financial affairs.
"Does anybody really think Helio Castroneves really made a financial decision?" he said. "All he did was drive — and drive he did."
