LOS ANGELES — Indiana Jones co-star Shia LaBeouf was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving Sunday after an automobile accident left him with injuries to his hand and knee, according to the Associated Press.

The gossip Web site TMZ.com reported that LaBeouf underwent surgery for the injuries that will cause him to miss filming on Transformers 2 for nearly a month.

LaBeouf's representative released a statement that said "attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008," according to gossip sites TMZ.com and PerezHilton.com. "Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery, with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time."

The 22-year-old actor was behind the wheel of a Ford F-150 at the time of the crash. He was trying to make a turn at the West Hollywood intersection that is the location of High Voltage, the tattoo parlor where the TLC cable-TV reality show L.A. Ink is filmed.

"It was immediately apparent to officers responding on the scene that LaBeouf was intoxicated, and he was subsequently placed under arrest," Los Angeles County Sheriff Sgt. Scott Wolf told the Associated Press.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
