LAS VEGAS — Mattel has upped the ante with its Hot Wheels lineup, stuffing a miniature video camera into a new version of a toy car. The Hot Wheels Video Racer is expected to be priced around $60 when it shows up on store shelves this fall.
It debuted recently at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show.
As the car races around corners and does loops on a Hot Wheels track, it records video at 30 to 60 frames per second and can store up to 12 minutes worth of footage. A USB port on the back of the car allows you to export the video to your computer, or you can view the brief journey on a small LCD screen on the bottom of the toy car.
Software is also included to edit in scene transitions, and add special effects to spice up the video. A case is included to keep things organized, and a Velcro strap lets you tether the Hot Wheels racer to anything, from a skateboard to your actual car.
