Gordon Murray Design has 15 potential clients in 12 countries interested in building and selling the small city car. The company hasn't released any substantive details about the car yet, but it will certainly be small. GMD says the T.25 will be so narrow that two of the cars can drive side by side in a standard highway lane; three T.25s will fit into a parallel parking spot, the company says.
Along with the rights to its T.25, Gordon Murray Design is looking to license its iStream manufacturing process, which allows a factory to be built in a space 80 percent smaller than a conventional plant. In addition to reducing the space and capital required for an assembly plant, the company says the process will lead to a significant reduction in carbon dioxide emissions related to vehicle manufacturing.
GMD boasts that the T.25 and the iStream manufacturing process stand to be the biggest revolution in automobile production since Henry Ford's Model T.
Inside Line says: The auto world could certainly use another Henry Ford with innovation on the scale of a Model T to jump-start the industry and economy. — Eric Tingwall, Correspondent
