SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — A 1949 MG TC that Carroll Shelby said changed his life after he drove it will hit the auction block during the inaugural Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Event in Las Vegas October 15-18.

The dark green MG TC is equipped with the original 1,250cc four-cylinder engine, linked to a four-speed transmission. It has since been tuned up to 100-plus horsepower and is described as "race ready." The new owner will get the car's SCCA logbook as well as the original fenders, hood and mechanical parts. The MG has been part of the Syd Silverman Collection for more than 20 years.

Shelby, builder of the legendary Shelby Cobra and Shelby Mustang, drove the car to victory in a road race in Norman, Oklahoma, in 1952. "This MG changed my life, because from that point forward, I knew that I wanted to be involved with racing and sport cars," Shelby said in a statement.

Part of the proceeds from the auction of the MG TC will benefit one of Shelby's charities.

For more information, check out the Barrett-Jackson Web site. The MG TC is Lot #819.
