Atlanta Motorsports Park To Unveil New Green Track Design

ATLANTA — Atlanta Motorsports Park, which bills itself as "a private country club for fast, exotic cars and bikes," has hired noted Formula 1 track designer Hermann Tilke to create a new world-class track. AMP says it plans to remake itself into "the only green/sustainable/eco-friendly motorsports park in the world."

The official unveiling of the new road course is on July 30 at Hennessy Porsche in nearby Roswell, Georgia. A number of celebrities will be on hand, from Speed Channel commentator Bob Varsha to Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Michael Jenkins.

The new AMP track will be the first U.S. project for Tilke Engineers & Architects, which is based in Aachen, Germany. Established in 1984, Tilke has tweaked such circuits as Hockenheim, Nürburgring and Fuji, while designing new tracks in Bahrain, Sepang, Shanghai, Istanbul, Valencia and Singapore.

Inside Line says: Hermann Tilke is one of the genuine superstars of motorsports, albeit one known more to the drivers than to the fans. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
