TURIN, Italy — The fabled scorpion logo of Abarth is being resurrected at the upcoming Geneva auto show on hot new performance variants of the best-selling Fiat Grande Punto.

Fiat is showing two Abarth-prepped cars: the Grande Punto Abarth Preview concept and the Grande Punto Abarth S2000.

The Grande Punto Abarth Preview provides just what the name implies: a sneak peek at a new production model that Fiat will put on sale in Europe in September. The showcar features a 150-horsepower turbocharged 1.4-liter four-cylinder gas engine. Fiat is promising an even hotter 180-hp variant for production.

The Grande Punto Abarth S2000 is the racing cousin of the production model. Fiat's racing department plans to enter the car in the 2007 Italian Rally Championship, as well as the Intercontinental Rally Challenge. The S2000 will feature a normally aspirated 270-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and four-wheel drive.

What this means to you: A brilliant marriage of a legendary performance brand with a best-selling family car.
