    What's Special About It?

    GM has described the Sequel as being a successor of sorts to the Hy-Wire and AUTOnomy concepts as well as the "skateboard" technology that debuted in Detroit several years ago. This fuel-cell hybrid concept is built from ground-up architecture, which incorporates an aluminum space frame. The low-profile rolling chassis has the capability of being all-wheel, rear-wheel or even front-wheel drive. The weight on this crossover-type vehicle, roughly the same size as the Cadillac SRX, is distributed evenly between the front and rear of the car. The interior sports swiveling front chairs, and an unusually clean instrument panel, while the exterior is distinguished by a large grille and a sunroof that runs the length of the vehicle. Other features include fiber-optic headlights, side-to-side torque control, 22-inch wheels and an air exit that reduces the temperatures of the battery pack.

    GM has come a long way with its hybrid plans since the "skateboard" technology first made its debut in Detroit. The company has taken this 11-inch platform, which seemed more of a novelty than anything else, and actually transformed it into a viable concept. The fact that the Sequel is a hybrid makes the achievement even that much more impressive, especially one with a hydrogen supply that lasts for roughly 50 more miles than most of the current competition. In addition to its daring hybrid design, the Sequel also has a built-in capacity for innovation and versatility which should make it an appealing choice to put into production at some point down the line. — Phil Lienert
