Your so wrong the DTS is based on the same chassis as the last generation deville which shares its chassis with the old impala and seville, not the new lacrosse which is based on the epsilon 2 platform. Frankly the DTS and XTS make no sense...what are they competing with besides the buick lucerne and dead town car. They arent nice enough to be a competitor to the 7 S class crowd, its to big to be an e 5 series competitor and despite starting in the 40s its WAY to big to run with the CTS and ES crowd. Its a car for a market that doesnt exist anymore save the XTS for a buick flagship it doesnt fit anywhere in the Cadillac lineup the ATS 3 series, CTS 5 series and they need a proper flagship not an extended malibu to compete with the 7 series segment along with a midsize 3 row suv above the srx not a redone malibu......

Cadillac is on a roll! They might not beat Mercedes, BMW or Audi with this car. But they might eat Lexus Jaguar and Infiniti's lunch.

Hate this is coming 2013.
I'll need a family car before then (second bout of rear facing car seat is coming) and would like to cross shop as I like the look of the concept better than the competition (except maybe Audi).

A loaded 7 or S is well into the 90s, and a DTS somewhere
in the 50s. The 2 demographics aren't interchangable. A
premium euro marque driver wouldn't DREAM about buying a
domestic product, but then 99% of the time they don't even
know what kind of engine is under the hood. Audi and BMW
vehicles truly have great performance and are well engineered,
but Cadillac vehicles are known for their touring attitudes.
For some people, instead of recognizing the extreme contrast
between these 2 markets, its easier to sit behind the wheel of
a mid 90s corolla in a threadbare seat and drool over the latest
copy of Automobile and $100K car stats, and bash anything that
costs less than $75,000, and especially domestic!

The Escalade is the Flagship of Cadillac. The XTS was meant to replace the STS & DTS. Sharing a chassis does not mean its going to be the same as the Lacrosse. It gives you an idea of the wheelbase for the car, but the chassis still can be modified.
With all of the recent concepts Cadillac has been delivering, I don't think this car will be anything near Malibu-esque. There is alot of bad-talking about the American car companies...I think they are putting up a valiant effort! Ford has revamped its ENTIRE lineup with stylish vehicles and still has the opportunity to make Niche vehicles like the Raptor. GM is in the midst of doing the same. I test drove the Cruze earlier this year and was SHOCKED at the quality of the materials, design & engineering. Don't judge it until you've driven it. Statements like its "the biggest mistake Cadillac could have made" are unnecessary!

The lesabre, park avenue, town car, crown victoria, deville seniors
barge market doesn't exist anymore. Their too old to drive now. Buick,
Cadillac, and Lincoln's current lineups are extremely reflective of that.
The 50-60yr olds of today are more of a yuppy consumer that would like to
drive a BMW or MB marque, but can't afford it, so they'll settle for a
new Accord or Hyundai that looks expensive, or maybe a Lexus ES if things
are going really well. The XTS is a little anonymous looking but it'll
definitely be a cool full-size if it has a little more grunt than the 4.6
they've been using. The 5.3 in the impala is a 1000 times more fun for a fwd.

this vehicle needs to be bigger than the LaCrosse if Cadillac wants it to be a player in the flagship segment.

@ VantageMan: Where do you get your information from? The DTS was not, at any time, ever based on the Impala. The DTS platform is older and much (much) larger than the Impala.
This is not the 'flagship' and it is not intended to compete with the 7 series. If you've ever driven or taken a ride in a DTS, you would know that has some very good qualities that many loyal (likely older) Cadillac customers look for: smooth power, impervious ride quality, big soft seats, lots of passenger space, and a huge trunk. They can't just let the DTS die without something appropriate to sell in its place.
I actually think that the DTS is a great idea... it is based on the current Buick Lacrosse, which has proven to be a sales success. The XTS allows GM to take that same successful platform and generate more volume plus higher profit margins with it. If the customers like it, then it's a win-win. The DTS has its charms, the XTS is certain to provide a similar experience in a more efficient package that is better (or at least more advanced) in almost every way... they'd be stupid NOT to build it.

I came across 4 or 5 disguised mules being tested on the wicked roads of Tail of the Dragon last month. Not only did a hot blonde test driver do a little burn out (apologetically, to "get data"), the American machines actually seemed unafraid to speed into the many tightly wound corners.
Fingers crossed this doesn't turn out to be another tightly creased marshmallow.
