LOS ANGELES — Cadillac has pulled the wraps off its all-new 2013 XTS. The brand's new flagship sedan arrives at dealers in the spring as the successor to the DTS and STS.

The car was previewed at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show as the XTS Platinum concept.

The 2013 XTS comes in front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations and is powered by a direct-injection 3.6-liter V6 mated to a six-speed automatic with "tap shift" controls. The engine delivers 300 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque.

The big five-passenger sedan is rated by the EPA at 17 mpg in city driving and 28 on the highway for the standard front-drive model and 17/27 for the AWD version.

Cadillac said the XTS will feature an extensive array of advanced technologies, including Lane Departure Warning, Forward Collision Alert, Safety Alert Seat, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Reflected LED Display, Color Head-Up Display, Automatic Brake, Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Collision Preparation.

The basic XTS rides on 19-inch wheels and tires and comes with standard Brembo brakes, rear air suspension and Magnetic Ride Control.

The uplevel XTS Platinum gets polished 20-inch aluminum wheels with chrome inserts, a chrome/satin-chrome grille and full leather interior with Alcantara headliner.

The XTS also provides the first application of GM's new CUE infotainment system. CUE bundles a suite of infotainment, navigation and communication tools with an intuitive user interface, and also will be featured next year on Cadillac's new ATS sedan and revised SRX crossover.

Inside Line says: The technology package looks straight out of Stuttgart or Munich.

This is an attractive vehicle and will sell well. This will compete for the same customers that are looking at the genesis, es350, and lacrosse. Not that anything is wrong with that because that is a very large market but cadillac still needs a true flagship vehicle. This xts as the flagship of the biggest automaker in the richest country in the world is a joke and makes me ashamed to call myself american when it comes to cars. GM has all the resources in the world to build a competitor to the S550, 750i, A8, and the LS460. It's sicks sad and pathetic that not one of the big three build a vehicle that is capable of competing with those vehicles.

Wow...if I were in the market for a full-size car, this would be at the top of my list.  The exterior and interior are both equally stunning.  Cadillac has hit a home run with this one.

The car looks nice. I have a '09 DTS and love it. I am a limo operator, so I love the idea of a V6 powered FWD Caddy. Some of us have to drive in all weather, and RWD is not a realistic option. Last winter, I never got stuck, but saw a million Town Cars in trouble.

While I would prefer it to be based on a RWD, I do like the AWD option.  Of course, how it's implemented will be key.   I guess it would be nice if they had a 7 or 8 speed automatic, but do you really need all those gears or is it just for show (our car has more gears than your car)?   Quite frankly, I have a 6 speed automatic right now and, given the tall overdrive, it's usually one gear too many.   Plus, if you have enough horsepower and torque, you really don't need those extra gears.  I do agree with the comment requesting better visibility, but this look is still very much in vogue and we'll just have to wait for it to run its course.    All in all, though, I like the car.   I've been thinking about a CTS with AWD  (as well as several others).   Now I'm wondering how much more the XTS will cost.

Ok, the high beltline look has now officially run its course.  Please start designing cars with larger greenhouses.  I like to see where I'm going.  i like to know where the corners are.  If I wanted a gangster car, I'd have somebody chop and channel a 50's mobile.

THIS IS VERY NICE LOVE THE DESIGN LOVE THE INTERIOR HATE THE WOOD, CUE? CAN ANYONE SAY MY FORD TOUCH. THAT'S THE SAME TOUCH LAYOUT THAT LINCOLN PUTS IN THEIRS. THE DASH SCREEN IS NICE WHICH ALSO IS A COPY FROM JAGUAR AND LAND ROVER THIS IS A FRONT AW-DRIVER SEEMS LIKE ITS GONNA BE PERFORMANCE ORIENTED VERY GOOD BUT 300HP VERY LATE TO THE GAME WHEN ITS COMPETITORS LINCOLN MKS FOR EXAMPLE BASE ENGINE 2013 WILL PRODUCE 306HP AND ECO-BOOST 365HP SO I HOPE THEY HAVE ANOTHER ENGINE IN STORE. BUT VERY GOOD CADILLAC IS REALLY BECOMING THE LUXURY BRAND THAT AMERICA NEEDS TO FIGHT OFF THE EUROPEANS. NOW IF FORD CAN GET LINCOLN ON-BOARD IT WOULD BE A TRUE BATTLE.

Cadillac does still have a large market with the older generations that are trading up their now 15+ year old DeVilles for something new.

Judging by looks alone, this thing seems to be aimed at the Chinese Market rather than the Young Wall Street businessmen filled US of A.

It probably ain't the Flagship. If it is then I'm pretty sure GM is going nowhere with this one.

Only the exterior disappoints though (and the fact that this will be FWD). Everything else about this car is a sensation.

This car screams RWD, not FWD.

Never thought I'd say this, but GM missed the boat...with a boat.

A V-6 flagship (and FWD based)?  Do they think they're Acura or something?  This is a joke fit for rental duty and grandma and grandpa, not the young(er), more sophisticated buyer who aspires to something American, yet appreciates and could afford a European sedan.
