Cadillac Plans Limited Production of STS-V and XLR-V

DETROIT — Cadillac told Inside Line on Tuesday it will limit the production of the high-performance 2006 XLR-V roadster to between 500 and 1,000 vehicles; the 2006 Cadillac STS-V's production run will max out at 2,000.

The STS-V will go on sale in late November; the XLR-V, the most expensive Caddy ever — with a price tag of $100,000, as Inside Line revealed — will go on sale in January. The STS-V will start at $77,090, including an $815 destination charge.

Cadillac spokesman David Caldwell said the V-models, which have new, handcrafted "cut-and-sew" interiors by German supplier Draexlmaier, suggest a "21st-century version of Cadillac's coach-building heritage."

Caldwell said the 2007 Cadillac SRX SUV will get a new interior and the same custom-interior treatment as the V-models. "It won't be long before Cadillac models like the CTS get this treatment, too," he said. "It's like remodeling your house. You can pick granite or a cheaper material, but it's the same process." The CTS is due for a redesign in calendar year 2007.

What this means to you: Cadillac intends to incorporate the same spirit in its upcoming vehicle interiors as it did to exterior design earlier this decade. Your new Caddy will bring more enjoyment inside and out.
