- Cadillac will offer a 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 engine this summer on the 2012 SRX crossover.
- The new 3.6-liter V6 is expected to deliver 300 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque.
- Other enhancements for 2012 include standard Bluetooth connectivity on all SRX models, plus an available heated steering wheel and new machined-face finish 20-inch wheels.
DETROIT — Cadillac will offer a larger, more powerful engine on the 2012 SRX crossover when it arrives late this summer at U.S. dealers.
The new engine is a version of the direct-injection 3.6-liter V6 that is offered in the Cadillac CTS sedan and other models. In the 2012 SRX, the 3.6 V6 will deliver 300 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque, compared with 304 hp and 273 lb-ft in the 2011 CTS.
Cadillac said the 3.6 will be quicker than the 265-hp 3.0-liter V6 that is now standard in the SRX and provides 0-60 acceleration in 7.5 seconds. The 3.6 also is flex-fuel capable, which means it can run on any blend of gasoline and ethanol up to E85.
Other enhancements on the 2012 SRX include standard Bluetooth connectivity on all models, plus an available heated steering wheel and new machined-face finish 20-inch wheels.
Prices on the 2012 SRX will be announced this summer.
Inside Line says: We're surprised Cadillac is focused on furnishing a larger engine with more power in its 2012 crossover, rather than boosting fuel economy in an era of rising gas prices. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

Wow, GM is just now getting around to doing what they should have done in the first place (espeicallly since the RX350... as in 3.5 liters standard is there main target for the SRX).... Oh wait, it's not til the end of this summer. It's a good thing for GM there are alot of very patient, supportive US customers out there who want to see GM succeed.

I like the looks of the vehicle...but I'm not sold on every car having to have 20" wheels. Dubs as I call'em. I don't think they add a thing, except MUCH higher tire costs and a rougher ride.

"And 300 hp might still not be enough for this porker. There is no way the old 3.0 did 0-60 in 7.5 sec. It's a strong seller though, good for Cadillac."
I think they are saying the new engine will do o-60 in 7.5 secs. The current one does it 8.4secs per C&D. The turbo model was clocked at around 7.5secs.
I believe this engine is standard.

Who drives a Caddy because of the awesome fuel economy? I don't think owners care as much about the MPGs as they do the badge on the grill.

"I like the looks of the SRX in upper trim levels but I think that it looks horrible in base trim, which is pretty much all I seem to see. Wheel and tire combos look bad and the package as a whole doesn't look very luxurious. Loaded trim with bigger wheels and fog lamps and HID/led accent lighting looks much better."
I would say half the SRX's I see have the 20s. I dont like the base rims at all.

Does the individual writing these news updates know ANYTHING about the SRX at all? Considering all the flak the SRX got over its 3L engine the comment above is absurd. This is a luxury crossover, not and eco box. Mileage will be comparable to other vehicles in the class.
"Negetive comment about a American brand by a Leinert?
OMG, what a surprise."
He's a perfect fit at IL.

Actually, from previous articles I have read about this, they ARE addressing the later point. This will undoubted beat the ratings of the 2.8T, which was comparable power-wise. I'd bet this even beats the existing 3.0. Obviously, that engine is just overworked and compensating with bad gear rations, in that it's 17/23 rating can't even match the 18/24 by the larger, non-DI Lexus 3.5. My guess is this new 3.6 will be tuned to at least match the Lexus, with more power to boot. We'll see....

Umm, why? Weren't you guys complaining that the 3L version was way too slow to be considered over the quicker competition?

Here in South Florida the SRX is selling well, very well in fact. They are now just as ubiquitous as the Lexus RX350.
