WASHINGTON — General Motors is recalling 47,401 of its 2011 Cadillac SRXs because an airbag problem may leave the right-rear passenger unprotected in certain frontal and side crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"The airbags are programmed to turn off the right-side roof-rail airbag if the passenger sensing system determines that the right-front passenger seat is unoccupied," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "The right-rear occupant may not be protected and [may] suffer injuries in certain frontal and side crashes."
GM is asking Cadillac dealers to hold the 2011 SRXs on their lots until the fix is made, according to documentation filed with the federal government.
The recall is expected to begin on June 17.
Cadillac dealers will reprogram the sensing and diagnostic module. Owners can contact Cadillac at 1-866-982-2339.
Inside Line says: If you own the aforementioned SRX, be aware that a recall is in the works.

This vehicle REALLY should have been built in the USA. I would have hoped this vehicle would have been built at the Lake Orion, Michigan plant when they stopped building the G6 there. Or at the Lansing Cadillac Plant with the the other Cadillacs. Or at the Hamtramck plant where the DTS was built. Would have been a logical choice.

It should be recalled for being a $45K car that's built in Mexico.
