    What Is It?
    Cadillac Sixteen

    What's Special About It?
Cadillac calls the Sixteen a harbinger of a new era. Certainly Cadillac is eager to return to the glory days when Cadillac cars were synonymous with quality and success. Today's Cadillac is still an impressive automobile, but in some ways falls short of offering a true premium luxury vehicle similar to Bentley or top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz products. The Sixteen concept suggests Cadillac is on its way to competing in that arena in the very near future.

Heritage design and retro marketing campaigns litter the airwaves these days, but Cadillac is taking a different approach. Cadillac has established a totally new, nonretro image for its cars and trucks and has done it successfully. The Sixteen is not a retro car the way others are, it only hints at a more powerful, opulent past that many consumers may not even remember. The clear nod to Caddy's past is the V16 motor that sits under a long, low aluminum, center-divided hood that flips up from the left or right side. That 13.6-liter V16 is good for 1,000 horsepower. One-thousand horsepower sure does sound silly, but remember, when Cadillac was the standard of the world back in the 1950s, power and luxury always went hand in hand.

The Sixteen will offer luxury above and beyond that of current Cadillac cars in other ways as well. Interior features include a rear-seat DVD information system, Bose sound system and OnStar in-vehicle safety and security communication system. The dash will feature a Bvlgari clock, and seats are covered with hand-stitched Tuscany leather. Also, the interior will be adorned with quality metallic surfaces and crystal to show off the Sixteen's craftsmanship.

    Why Should You Care?
Cadillac is already on somewhat of a roll with the Escalade EXT and DTS sedan, but a successful Sixteen would really put it on top — aside from all that, it's just so cool that a company would put a V16 in one of its new cars. — Brian Moody
