ATLANTA — All models of the 2009 Cadillac Escalade will be E85 ethanol capable at no additional cost to the buyer, General Motors has announced.

The Escalade, Escalade EXT, Escalade Hybrid and Escalade ESV join the ranks of General Motors' 2009 flex-fuel lineup, which includes the Chevrolet HHR, Buick Lucerne and Hummer H2. Escalade's sister SUV, the 2009 GMC Denali, also will have flex-fuel capability.

"The success of E85 as an alternative fuel depends on having the fuel readily available and having a range of cars and trucks that can use it. We will offer more than 15 flex-fuel-capable models for 2009 compared with 11 this year," said Beth Lowery, GM vice president of environment, energy and safety policy.

E85 ethanol can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by as much as 23 percent compared with gasoline, and GM plans on making half of its U.S. production flex-fuel ready by 2012. Last year, GM built more than 1 million E85-capable cars and trucks worldwide.
