Caught testing inside GM's Milford proving grounds, this CTS wagon prototype reveals several of the major design details of the new five-door. Almost all of the original lines of the CTS sedan have been kept intact, including the small rear windows.
A hastily snapped interior shot reveals relatively small quarter windows behind the C-pillars and huge D-pillars at each corner. Visibility won't be great, but the overall shape of the rear end looks to be in proportion to the rest of the car. There's a sizable cargo area behind the rear seat, so the CTS wagon will be a legitimate utility vehicle compared to some of the other sport wagons in its class.
Expect to see the same engine lineup as the sedan, along with both rear- and all-wheel-drive models. Given that this version of the CTS is most likely aimed at generating European sales, a diesel power plant is probably in the works as well.
Sales of the coupe are scheduled to begin next spring, so the 2009 Cadillac CTS wagon shouldn't be too far behind.
