Coach Builders' Larry Moran says the design work for the CTS convertible is complete, and that the company is currently taking orders for the $19,000 conversion.
The drop-top conversion consists of a full open convertible without a roll bar. The acrylic polyester cloth hydraulic tops come in a variety of colors including tan, gray, blue, brown and black, and employ General Motors-style manual latches at the front corners. The roof is padded between the structure and the exterior fabric for sound and temperature insulation. A heated glass rear window and fabric headliner complete the look.
Moran knows the success of the original model is what makes the difference in potential convertible conversion sales. "We look for models that are popular and strong," says Moran. "If the car is popular and hot, that's what gives us our boost."
Typical conversion time takes eight weeks, and some demo cars will be available for sale as well.
"There's no charge until customers receive the finished product," affirms Moran. "After 32 years in business, we've passed that hurdle. We don't need a customer's money up front to build a car."
