"The Cadillac CTS now competes toe to toe with some of the best German and Japanese sport sedans," said David Champion, senior director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports.
As the automotive consumer watchdog points out, "BMW and Mercedes-Benz have long been considered by many Americans to set the standard in the sport sedan category." However, the CTS still ranks only third among the 12 sport sedans that Consumer Reports has rated. Two Japanese contenders, the Acura TL and Infiniti G35, still lead this class in the magazine's ratings.
The CTS won an "excellent" overall score, beating out the 328i and C300, which got "very good" overall scores. "The CTS is also ranked above some previously tested sport sedans, including the Lexus IS 250, the Acura TSX and the Audi A4," said Consumer Reports in a statement late Monday.
In a separate test, the new Chevrolet Malibu also garnered praise. After testing two trim lines of the Malibu, Consumer Reports judges it to "rank among the best family sedans, just below the Nissan Altima, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry."
