Based on the redesigned 2008 CTS and due in showrooms in late 2008, the latest iteration of the V-series packs new muscle with a supercharged 6.2-liter LSA V8, rated at 550 horsepower and 550 pound-feet of torque. For the first time, the CTS-V will also offer an automatic gearbox: a Hydra-matic 6L90 six-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Buyers can also opt for a Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual box.
Look for the usual high-tech hardware from Cadillac, including StabiliTrak, Magnetic Ride Control and a new Performance Traction Management system that regulates torque delivery during acceleration and cornering for optimum grip.
Brembo provides high-performance brakes, while Michelin supplies its Pilot Sport 2 performance tires — 255/40ZR19s in front and 285/35ZR19s in the rear — mounted on forged alloy wheels.
Cadillac has updated the exterior with specific front and rear fascias including a larger, satin-finish grille, plus a raised hood to accommodate the Eaton supercharger.
Inside, the CTS-V features Recaro 14-way adjustable performance driving seats with pneumatic bolsters in the seat cushions and backrests, as well as an advanced nav system with pop-up screen, Bose digital surround audio and a 40GB hard drive.
Cadillac hasn't announced pricing yet on the 2009 CTS-V, but says the car will target some of Europe's finest, including the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.
This will also be the first CTS-V sold outside North America. Cadillac plans to export to Europe, the Middle East and Asia in 2009.
What this means to you: The new CTS-V should have no problem running with the big dogs. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
