2009 Cadillac CTS-V Will Get 505 HP V8 From Corvette Z06

SANTA MONICA, Calif. — Despite various rumors of a supercharged V8 under the hood, the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V will use a normally aspirated 7.0-liter V8 when it goes on sale in 2008.
New pictures of the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V surfaced recently and as usual, they were accompanied by a flood of speculation about what lies under the hood. Most of that rumor was fueled by the hood itself, as it was sporting a rather large bulge that seemed to indicate the presence of a supercharger.
One popular theory says that bulge is hiding a supercharged version of the 430-horsepower LS3 used in the 2008 Corvette. Another source claims the CTS-V will get an even more potent supercharged power plant with as much as 600 hp. That engine would be a detuned version of the nearly 700-hp blown LS7 slated for the $100,000-plus Corvette Z07, according to the same source.
According to our information, however, none of those rumors are true as the CTS-V won't be supercharged at all. Instead it will borrow the normally aspirated 7.0-liter LS7 from the current Corvette Z06.
With 505 hp and 470 pound-feet of torque, the LS7 should have more than enough grunt to get the roughly 3,800-pound CTS-V up to speed. Consider that Mercedes-Benz uses an engine with nearly identical specs in its 4,000-pound E63 AMG, which is the quickest sedan we've ever tested.
Don't expect 700 horses from the Corvette Z07 either. It's more likely to show up with around 625 hp — enough to top the latest Viper without tearing the tires off the rims.
Expect to see the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V in dealers next year with a price tag significantly below its European counterparts.
What this means to you: Regardless of which rumor is true, the 2009 Cadillac CTS-V is guaranteed to have enough power to play with the big boys in the luxury super-sedan class.
