I’m Automotive Editor James Riswick and this is the 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe. While other luxury two-doors are sleek and slinky, this CTS is angular, it’s brash, it says, “Hey, look at me!” It’s exactly what a Cadillac coupe should be.   But that’s the styling. The real question is, what is it like to live with on a daily basis?  Should you need to carry around stuff in your CTS Coupe, you’ll run into more issues.  Of course, all coupes compromise comfort and practicality; it’s just that the CTS seems to do so more than most.  But it still looks pretty cool  The CTS coupe shares the CTS sedan’s 306-horsepower direct-injected V6 and six-speed automatic. The coupe has slightly more aggressive gearing, but nevertheless, we found that it was about even at the drag strip with the sedan, recording a zero to 60 time of 6.7 seconds.  With a 1.2-inch wider track, we figured the coupe would do better than the sedan in our handling tests, but that just wasn’t the case. Its 67 mph slalom run and a skidpad performance of 0.83g couldn’t top the sedan and just barely nudged the CTS Sportwagon.  More distressing is the overly heavy steering, which is quite unlike the friction-free and precise action of the CTS sedan’s steering.  After 2 weeks with the Cadillac CTS Coupe, we were disappointed to discover that it’s not more than a fashion statement. It’s not sporty enough, it’s not comfortable enough and it’s not easy to live with. We’d stick with the sedan.
