What's New for 2012: All Makes

2012 Cadillac CTS Coupe: All versions of the Cadillac CTS get a heavily revised version of the direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 that's 20 pounds lighter than last year's 3.6-liter engine and rated for 318 horsepower (up from 304). You can still get this engine with either rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, but if you want a manual gearbox with it, no can do: A six-speed automatic is standard. In other news, the CTS gets a new grille design, and Bluetooth is now standard across the board. If you select the Luxury or Premium trim level, you can get an optional Touring package with special wheels (18-inch alloys with a pearl nickel finish on the Luxury, polished 19s on the Premium), chrome door handles, a revised grille, a V-series-style center brake light, a suede-trimmed steering wheel, metal-trimmed pedals, Midnight Sapele wood inlays and suede seat trim. On the CTS Premium, the Touring package also scores you a pair of Recaro seats. New paint choices include Black Diamond Tricoat, Opulent Blue Metallic and Mocha Steel Metallic (with late availability on the Mocha). The CTS coupe also gets a blind spot warning system to help you cope with its massive C-pillars.

2012 Cadillac CTS Sedan: The CTS sedan gets all the same upgrades as the coupe, save for the blind spot warning system.

2012 Cadillac CTS Wagon: Ditto for the wagon.

2012 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe: Extra horsepower doesn't seem to have improved its sight lines, so Cadillac has added a blind spot warning system to the CTS-V coupe as well. Black Diamond Tricoat and Opulent Blue Metallic are new to the exterior color palette.

2012 Cadillac CTS-V Sedan: You're going to get rain-sensing wipers as standard this year, and if you wish, you can paint your CTS-V sedan Black Diamond Tricoat, Mocha Steel Metallic or Opulent Blue Metallic.

2012 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon: You know the drill: Rain-sensing wipers? Check. Option to choose Black Diamond Tricoat, Mocha Steel Metallic or Opulent Blue Metallic paint? Check.

2012 Cadillac DTS: RIP. Its successor, the XTS, arrives in the spring of 2012.

2012 Cadillac Escalade: Cadillac has updated the navigation system to include new POI search features, guiding lines for the back-up camera and enhanced satellite-radio-based weather updates. There's a new lid design for the center console, and Platinum Edition models are available with a revised Ebony color scheme. Later in the model year, the color palette will expand to include Radiant Silver and Crystal Red.

2012 Cadillac Escalade ESV: Ditto for the extended-wheelbase Escalade ESV.

2012 Cadillac Escalade EXT: The Escalade pickup truck receives just the nav system updates and the new center console lid design.

2012 Cadillac Escalade Hybrid: Yes, indeed, your Escalade Hybrid will have upgraded navigation software this year, plus a better center console lid. You may order an Escalade Hybrid Platinum Edition with an ebony interior with ebony accent trim, and if you're willing to wait a bit, you can have your hybrid rig in Radiant Silver or Crystal Red.

2012 Cadillac SRX: Wisely, Cadillac has discontinued the underachieving 3.0-liter V6 and turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 engines for 2012. Now every SRX comes standard with a heavily revised version of the automaker's direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 rated at 308 hp and 265 pound-feet of torque. A six-speed automatic transmission with a driver-selectable Eco mode is standard. Bluetooth is now standard across the board, and all versions except the base model have a heated steering wheel. Cadillac has added a central door lock button to the driver door (in addition to the one on the console), and you can opt for Ebony interior trim. The 20-inch wheels (if, indeed, you really need 20-inch wheels on a family crossover) have a new finish this year, and you just might decide to paint your 2012 SRX Xenon Blue Metallic.

    2012 Cadillac STS: RIP.
