- Buick announced that it will build the Buick Regal GS.
- Regal GS is a production version of the high-performance Regal GS show car first seen at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show.
- The show car was equipped with a 2.0-liter Ecotec turbocharged engine.
DETROIT — Buick said on Thursday that it will build the Buick Regal GS, after receiving "a lot of positive consumer feedback" about the high-performance Regal GS show car that debuted in January at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show. "No further details are available at this time," said Buick in a statement.
When the Buick Regal GS show car was unveiled, the GM division called it a high-performance version of its Regal sedan. The show car was equipped with a 2.0-liter Ecotec turbocharged engine. On Thursday, Buick said the Regal CXL turbo will be available in the fourth quarter of this year. But it didn't hint at what would be under the hood of the production Regal GS.
The Regal GS show car was designed to be a scene stealer with such details as a lowered body, an adaptive all-wheel-drive system, forged-aluminum 20-inch wheels and performance tires, Recaro front seats and Brembo brakes. The cabin was equipped with a jet-black interior and a flat-bottomed steering wheel.
The show car was pitched as a "21st-century successor to Buick's Gran Sport heritage."

Yes, the Regal GS has been sold as both a Vauxhall and an Opel--both have a hot V6 and the same adaptive all-wheel drive system. When GM announced they were thinking of ditching the all-wheel drive, I sent them my thoughts...that I'd drop the Regal from contention as my next car. The turbo-4 is a bit disappointing given the 6 already exists, but I'm willing to give it a drive.
My dad's a GM retiree and the 87 GN he bought new is still in the family (although I won't mention the abuse my brother has given it...grr). I have many fond memories of being shoved back in my seat by the acceleration, not to mention the turned heads as I drove it around town. I'm anxious to see if GM can *finally* build a car I want and I'll try the GS out. My dream: The VXR arrives as a new GN with the full 6-cylinders sometime in our future.

Finally!
A Buick from this millenium I would be happy to own...
(others being a T-Type, GN or GNX)
I just hope it ends up with a six and not a four.

I was downing on this version of the regal till I realized something; I4 with 4WD is brilliant. Lets steal away some evo/scooby sti customers by offering a similar drive train wrapped in a near luxury package, minus the backwards cap chav spoilers and the japanese-y playstationy electrological gizmos that alot of enthusiats couldn't care for. Dances the stars on the track (if you've the social chutzpah to take it there) and will ride you home gliding on a cushy cloud just like any buick should. Those who shout 'more powah!' can have it in the form of aftermarket ECU tweaks to kick up the boost and part swaps, which I'm certain are on the way, since believe it or not the previous plastifantastic regal had a huge aftermarket behind it. (try a search for zzperformance if you don't buy it)
Way to go General. They'll sell a million of them.

This is a nice, modern, addition to Buick's lineup. The 4th gen Regal GS was a champ and a blast to drive and this one looks like it follows in its footsteps.
@charlesb: Buick sould not die if they keep coming up with cars like this. Maybe Buick can help resurrect GM. Plus, they're huge in China.

On Buicks website on the announcement of the concept GS it says: "The engine is mated to a six-speed manual transmission that directs torque to an
adaptive all-wheel-drive system calibrated for performance driving. An electronic, limitedslip
rear differential helps ensure the engine's power is distributed effectively during
cornering."

I'm still skeptical. I've owned, in the past, a 2002 Buick Regal GS. My father, in the much further past, owned a 1987 T-Type.
They were both raunchy boosted 6 cylinders, with the T-Type being RWD. Funny thing is, even the T was an Auto.
Standards are great, and in MOST cars I wouldn't buy an auto, but a high performance (I use the term loosely for now, what with the tiny 4 cylinder) Buick just screams "AUTO!"

The ability to do a manual tranny is there but seeing as how so few are sold it's hard to make a logical case for it expect to say it's offered. AWD is a much more important offering in my opinion.

Tightening fuel economy standards make a RWD V8 nearly impossible. Too bad though as it could be a very compelling offering . . .

Buick should die and go away. Join Saturn and Pontiac.
