DETROIT — The 2011 Buick Regal is being exposed to the online world, body panel by body panel, nearly a year ahead of its U.S. introduction. The latest "spy" images of the car have been posted on Buick's Facebook page.
The new Regal for North America will be based on a midsize sedan of the same name that's already on sale in China, which in turn is derived from the European Opel Insignia.
The 2011 Regal is expected to reach U.S. dealers sometime next fall, and will likely be positioned below the LaCrosse sedan, with a choice of four-cylinder and V6 engines.
In an earlier Facebook posting, then-general manager Susan Docherty, recently promoted to head General Motors' North American sales group, said: "As even more new Buicks are only a short distance down the road, our focus on delivering only the best to our customers will not change. For those who have driven our vehicles in the past, we thank you for your loyalty and faith in us. For those who have yet to experience the new Buick, we look forward to earning your business."
Inside Line says: A younger management team at Buick is figuring out how to leverage social networks to get the brand message to a — presumably — younger audience. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent

That third picture is the LaCrosse, not the Regal, the Regal has a grill opening in the lower part of the bumper the LaCrosse does not.
