2008 Buick Lucerne Super
What's special about it?
The Buick Lucerne has always been the Cadillac of Buicks, based as it is on the big front-drive platform of the DTS.
But Caddy, being Caddy, always retained a little something extra for itself. In this case, only the DTS came with the higher-horsepower version of the 4.6-liter Northstar V8. That way, DTS drivers could lord over Buick pilots their 17-hp advantage.
Well, come the New York auto show in April, those days will be over. Buick will introduce the Lucerne Super, powered by the higher-output Northstar (292 hp).
You might point out that the V8 in the smaller, cheaper Lacrosse Super makes 8 more hp. And you would be right. When we pointed that out to some Buick officials, they simply gave us that look that says, "Come on, man. Why are you busting me on this? What can I do about it?"
The Lucerne Super won't arrive in dealerships until the spring or summer of 2008. Modifications to the exterior are minor and included a larger and glossier front grille, Super-specific 18-inch wheels and a few other details.
