- The LaCrosse receives a 303-hp 3.6 direct-injection V6.
DETROIT — The Buick Regal GS and the Buick LaCrosse will get higher-output engines for model year 2012.
The latest edition of the Regal GS, which hits U.S. dealers this fall, will feature a turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec four-cylinder engine rated at 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The direct-injection engine will be mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, enabling 0-60 acceleration in 6.7 seconds.
Buick says a six-speed automatic will be offered on the Regal GS later in the model year.
The 2012 LaCrosse, which will reach showrooms in late summer, will offer, as a no-cost option, a 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 rated at 303 hp and 264 lb-ft. Buick said the LaCrosse V6 is rated by the EPA at 17 mpg city/27 highway. An all-wheel-drive version with the same engine also will be available.
Inside Line says: With hotter engines and edgier designs, Buick is doing its best to position its newest cars against such import brands as Acura, in its ongoing effort to attract new customers and lower the average age of Buick buyers.

So now preferring to do business with your own countrymen and adding to your own economy is the same as fearing foreigners? Silly.

OMG, this was an actual story & not just an ad for GM! That stock photo of the Regal almost had me fooled.

Infinity and Buick traded designers. I actually like the look of the new Buick. Infinities remind me of the old egg Buick's of old. I have yet to test drive one.

GM in Europe is making their car even better while the GS for us Americans gets 15 additional HP? When we see what GM provides our European friends it is really unfortunate they are shorting us without AWD and an engine that can only do 0-60 in 6.7.
Go ahead, now tell me how I don't need AWD and that I should be plenty happy with 6.7 0-60 times. If they want to sell a "high performance" car with Recaro seats, brembo brakes, ground effects, flashy wheels etc, give it the balls and drivetrain too. Don't be worried about Cadillac sales.

@carpaul1 and morey000:
I also drove a 2009 Audi A4 Quattro for about a year and a half and as I documented on my user's review on Edmunds: The engine soudns rough! but it is a 4 cyl... the cycles on a 4 cyl make it sound rougher than a 6 cyl, and a 6 cyl rougher than an 8 cyl. I also stated that the 2.0t has enough power for a heavy car and that the MPG is great (30+ hwy). I does burn oil, about 1 quart every 5, 6k miles.

He's exaggerating... It doesn't sound like a tractor. It is pretty well isolated in Buick products and is nowhere near though the floorboards buzzy. You hear it more than u feel it... not that it's very load... & vibration does not much come though the pedals or floor boards.. sure it sounds like a 4 cylinder but not any worse than any number of there I-4s. here compare the GTI to the Regal Turbo.. the Buick is actually more isolated & once it revs it's quite smooth for an I-4.

Clearly the tractor comment is an exaggeration.

"Until then, this engine is only good on paper, with smoothness characteristics of a tractor engine. "
BINGO +1000
This is just not a premium SOUNDING engine....lots of HP and torque.....and that is fine for a Chevy but this a Buick and it need a nice six....not a rough four.

Really CarPaul? you like the Audi 2.0T better? It burns about a quart of oil every 2000 miles, hesitates, gets mediocre mileage and puts out 211hp. (I own one). Granted, I haven't driven the 2012 version of the GM 2.0 Turbo yet- so perhaps you're right. but I wouldn't be lauding that Audi/VW 2.0T. It's never been a great engine.
