The Blind Side: Buick LaCrosse Gets New Alert System

    4 Ratings
    Just the Facts:
    • The 2010 LaCrosse is the first GM vehicle to get a blind spot warning system.
    • Side Blind Zone Alert is optional on CXL and CXS models.
    • The feature will be rolled out to Cadillac models and the company's full-size SUVs.

DETROIT — The 2010 Buick LaCrosse will be the first General Motors model to offer Side Blind Zone Alert, which, like other blind spot warning systems, helps you avoid bumping shoulders with other motorists when changing lanes. It's optional on 2010 CXL and CXS models equipped with the Comfort and Convenience package.

The system has radar-equipped sensors with alternating radar beams that cover about a lane's width on either side of the vehicle and about 10 feet back from the rear of the vehicle.

An orange icon on the LaCrosse's side mirrors icon lights up whenever the alert system detects a vehicle in the driver's blind spot — and flashes if the driver puts on the turn signal to indicate a move in that direction.

The system will also be featured on several other 2010 GM models, including the Buick Lucerne, the Cadillac STS, DTS and Escalade ESV, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban and the GMC Yukon and Yukon XL

Inside Line says: Blind spot warning systems have become required fare on premium vehicles. For 2010, the LaCrosse will step up to the plate. — Laura Sky Brown, Correspondent

Ok, so here are the cold hard facts, the Infiniti nor this Buick are the first blind zone alert system. Come to think of it neither is MB. I own an 08' Lucerne super, blind zone alert system, lane departure warning, 300 horses and all.
sorry but the secret is out, my ole mans Buick had it first in 2008.

This system works great! If you've never driven a vehicle with Side Blind Zone Alert, you don't know what you're missing. It's all automatic and works without any input from the driver. If there's a car beside you, the icon is lit up in your mirror.

However, this is a horrible article because the Cadillac DTS and Escalade have offered this option since 2009. It would have been really easy to verify this information prior to writing the article but I guess it's more important in today's society to just write about it than make sure the facts are straight.

Give another reason for careless drivers not to look over their shoulders to check the blind spots?
Give another reason for careless drivers and idiots to blame malfuntioned system after massive accidents?

doesnt indicate how fast the oncoming vehicle is...a useless piece of technology in my opinion...plus, consider the type of owners buick attracts...another hi-tech gadget they have to learn :)

Unless I'm not understanding the article, this is NOT the first GM vehicle to feature Side Blind Zone Alert.  It was optional on the Chevrolet Suburban in 2009 (option code UFT), which means it was likely available on the GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade as well.
