2008 Beijing Auto Show Preview: Buick Excelle

BEIJING — Two weeks before the 2008 Beijing Auto Show opens, General Motors China has pulled the covers off the redesigned Buick Excelle, and it's a jewel.

Engineered in Korea by GM Daewoo, the Excelle is sold around the world in various versions under several badges, including Chevrolet Lacetti in Europe and Suzuki Forenza in the U.S.

In fact, GM reportedly is preparing to add a Chevy-badged companion to the new Excelle later this year in China.

The face-lifted Excelle shares some styling cues with its larger brethren, including the Park Avenue and the LaCrosse. The cabin also has been redesigned and upgraded, with leather and air-conditioning included on the extensive options list.

The new Excelle makes its public debut April 20 at the Beijing show.

What this means to you: When gas hits $4 a gallon in the not-too-distant future, the Excelle should begin to look much more attractive as a potential addition to Buick's U.S. lineup. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
