    • Buick will continue to release teaser shots of the car each week on its Facebook page until the official unveiling in early January at Detroit's Cobo Center.

    DETROIT — Buick on Wednesday confirmed that its new compact crossover, the 2013 Encore, will make its world debut in January at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show.

    The five-passenger Encore, known widely in cyber circles as the "baby Enclave," will feature "contemporary styling, signature QuietTuning technology and a host of features and amenities customers expect from Buicks today," the brand said in a statement.

    Buick released a single teaser image of the Encore's left front corner, showing portions of a headlamp, grille, hood and fender.

    The brand will continue to release teaser shots of the car each week on its Facebook page until the official unveiling in early January at Detroit's Cobo Center.

    The new Encore has been referred to frequently in online chat rooms and forums as the "baby Enclave," both because of its smaller size and supposed resemblance to Buick's full-size Enclave crossover, which is slated to get a significant face-lift for model year 2013.

    Some media reports also have suggested the new Buick compact crossover will borrow some styling cues from the Buick Envision concept that was unveiled earlier this year at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show.

    Inside Line says: Looks a bit more subdued than the Chinese concept.

    I just noticed that the Chevrolet Orlando has similar mirrors, and the headlights and hood match better the teaser pictures of the Encore. It also has the quarter window...

    ...so it may be based on the Orlando.

    @arthurbishop

    Side mirrors are like fingerprints in recent models. They are designed specifically for the model (it probably has to do with the aerodynamics of the vehicle).

    Buick is not dusting off the Vue, it is the same case as with the Verano/Cruze, it is a luxury variant of the same vehicle with some differences, like the quarter window.

    Oh so if the sideview mirror is the same, then everything else must be?  You really think Buick would dust off the Vue and introduce it as their new small SUV, especially as the Vue/Captiva is now a fleet only vehicle.
    Like another poster mentioned, it will be built on a different platform.

    @throwback

    Look a the side mirror, it is the same one used in the Vue/Antara/Captiva Sport.

    The Captiva Sport is still produced in Mexico (as it was as the Vue), I bet they are going to  assemble the Encore in the same plant.

    To respond to ianzoe1; if there's anything that Buick has been doing well recently... it's interiors.  They've been gorgeous!  Looking forward to seeing the Encore (agree- poor name) on the inside.

    This will not be a rebadged Vue if it is built on GMs Gamma (Chevy Sonic) platform as has been reported. This will be a B segment crossover similiar in size to the Juke.

    Let's not bother them with facts.  It just makes too much sense.

    Yes it does look just like the Saturn Vue. I have a 2008 Saturn Vue and I love it. It's quiet has a nice ride and has been very dependable. The car was much more upscale than I expected for a compact budget SUV. The only complaint I had about it is the interior has not held up well. I hope that they can address this problem in the new Buick version. I would definitely buy the Buick version. Buick has come a long way and is definetly bringing younger buyers into the fold. I am only 39 and would buy any of the current Buicks out there. Definately not your grandpas Buick anymore!

    This is definitely a rebadged VUE. Lets hope the interior is more distinguished.

    I think it looks exactly like the last version of the Saturn Vue.  Good platform though.
