2009 Buick: What's New for 2009

    0 Ratings
The death of Buick was once thought to be more than just rumor, but GM's midlevel luxury division continues on despite a thin product portfolio and a clientele born before there were Buicks (the company was founded in 1903).

AARP jokes aside, Buick continues to invest in its product. Although introduced just last year, the popular Buick Enclave along with the LaCrosse and Lucerne sedans all get a substantial list of improvements for 2009, including standard Bluetooth and more powerful engines.

2009 Buick Enclave: Buick's successful Enclave SUV gets a long list of improvements for 2009, including more power. The Buick's 3.6-liter V6 engine now drinks with direct-injection technology, which helps increase output to 288 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque.

Inside, heated and cooled driver and front passenger seats are now available as stand-alone options, Bluetooth is new and standard on all models, XM NavTraffic delivers real-time traffic information, OnStar Destination Download enables touchscreen navigation system users to quickly input their destination via the press of a button, and a 110-volt inverter has been added to all entertainment packages.

There are also two new exterior colors: Quicksilver Metallic and Silver Green Metallic replace Platinum Metallic and Blue-Gold Crystal Metallic.

2009 Buick LaCrosse: Buick's midsize sedan gets a handful of tweaks to keep it noncompetitive for 2009. Heated outside rearview mirrors are now standard on all models, while a split-folding rear seat has been added to the optional Driver Confidence package. Bluetooth is also on the menu: It's now available on all models and includes integrated steering-wheel controls.

On the outside, 16-inch painted aluminum wheels replace the standard 16-inch steel wheel covers on CX models and 17-inch chrome-clad wheels are available on CX models. There are also some new colors: Quicksilver Metallic exterior finish replaces Platinum Metallic. Buick has also sent Scarlet Red to paint color heaven.

2009 Buick Lucerne: Buick's full-size front-wheel-drive sedan also gets a short list of improvements for 2009, including a new larger, more powerful V6. The 3.9-liter, 227-hp V6 is now standard on Lucerne CX and CXL models. It's FlexFuel capable, produces 30 more horses compared to last year's 3.8-liter V6 and delivers 1 mpg estimated higher fuel economy for both city (17 mpg) and highway (26 mpg).

Additional standard equipment on CX models includes cornering lamps, six-way power passenger seat, heated power outside rearview mirrors and an extended-range key fob. Multiple luxury features have also been made standard on CXL models: eight-way heated driver and front passenger seats, power lumbar, memory settings, a heated leather steering wheel and outside rearview mirrors with integrated turn signal indicator.

New on the gizmo list are XM NavTraffic, which delivers real-time traffic information, and OnStar Destination Download, which enables drivers with touchscreen navigation systems to input their destination via the press of a button. Bluetooth is also now standard on all models.

Exterior changes are limited to new 17-inch wheels on CX and CXL models offered in Bright Silver premium paint and chrome-plated finish. A chrome grille replaces the black painted grille on CXL models, and there are three new exterior colors: Mystic Sapphire Tricoat, Quicksilver Metallic (replacing Platinum Metallic) and Cyber Gray Metallic (replacing Sharkskin).

The top-of-the-line Lucerne Super adds Black Onyx and Crystal Red Tintcoat to its color palette.
