SHANGHAI, China — Two made-to-order models, a Veyron 16.4 Super Sport coupe and a Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport convertible, grace Bugatti's stand at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show.

The Veyron 16.4 Super Sport, whose quad-turbocharged 8.0-liter W16 engine delivers 1,183 horsepower, was shown in Shanghai in black visible carbon fiber, with polished and anodized aluminum wheels and EB logos on the wheel caps, fuel filler cap and deck lid. The cabin is trimmed in Snow Beige leather and accented in black carbon fiber.

Bugatti said the Veyron 16.4 Super Sport's top speed is electronically limited to 258 miles per hour "to protect the tires." A special version of the Super Sport last summer set a land-speed record for production cars, with a mark of 267.8 mph.

At Shanghai, Bugatti also showed a Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport convertible painted matte white, with alloy wheels finished in blue, as well as blue carbon elements on the car's lower section. The cockpit sports an aluminum console and blue leather, with white stitching on seats, steering wheel and gear lever.

The Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport convertible makes 987 hp, with top speed limited to 224 mph with the top down and 99 mph with the canvas roof in place. An optional transparent polycarbonate roof module pushes terminal velocity to 253 mph.

Both cars have been pre-sold to customers and customized to their individual specifications.

Inside Line says: We're not likely to see a successor to the Veyron for at least another two years, according to the grapevine in Europe. — Paul Lienert, Correspondent
