BEVERLY HILLS, California — Simon Cowell is busy just now with his job judging the remaining nine of the American Idol top 10, but off duty, he's well known as an owner of an impressive stable of high-end cars. Most recently, Cowell spent $2 million-plus to acquire both a Bugatti Veyron and a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe. He was photographed in the Bugatti by paparazzi this week driving up to check on the workers building his 8,000-square-foot home here.
Cowell, not one to spread undeserved praise, was quoted by media last year as gushing: "I could have 100 cars and I'd still want more. I love staring at them. I love driving them, too." Among his acquisitions are an Aston Martin DB9 convertible, a Mini Cooper, a Range Rover and a Jaguar XKR.
Fellow judge Paula Abdul remonstrated with Cowell on the show last week for owning "a million-dollar car." She was wrong; it was more like $1.5 million.
