2000 BMW Z8 Roadster
FRANKFURT - "The World is Not Enough" seems the perfect theme for BMW's new Z8 Roadster, which is probably why the car will make its debut in that new James Bond film this November. Inspired by BMW's legendary 507 sports car, we feel the new drop top's 400-horsepower V8, 369 ft-lbs. of maximum torque and electronically limited 155 mph top speed probably are enough, at least for now.
A technological tour de force, the Z8 incorporates BMW's double-VANOS valve technology, electronically controlled throttle butterflies, four valves per cylinder and an engine controller capable of processing more than one million instructions per second. This 5.0-liter V8, along with the reinforced six-speed gearbox, are located for a perfect 50:50 weight distribution. Dynamic Stability Control, an all-aluminum spring-strut front suspension and four-arm rear suspension, plus 18-inch alloy wheels and run flat tires add a new dimension to the world of ultimate driving machines.
