LAUPHEIM, Germany — Hamann already released a wide-body kit for the BMW X6 in January, and has now expanded its treatment for the coupe-crossover that will be showcased at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Hamann has a performance upgrade kit for both U.S.-spec trims. Starting with the xDrive35i, output is increased from 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque to 360 hp and 398 lb-ft. Top speed is bumped up to 171 mph. A reconfigured ECU, sports exhaust system and metal catalysts help the xDrive50i's twin-turbo V8 develop 501 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. The extra 101 horses and 74 pound-feet on the xDrive50i allow it to max out at 186 mph.

The exterior aero package includes a wide-body kit that widens the car more than 2 inches and comes with fender extensions, side skirts, a rear lip and spoiler, front bumper with LED daytime running lights and a rear bumper that makes room for the dual-pipe sports exhaust with center exit. Ultralight 23-inch rims shod in 315/25R tires and 1.5-inch lowering springs provide the vehicle with a more aggressive stance.

Hamann also offers a variety of accessories for the interior like aluminum pedals, footrests, a 12-piece carbon-fiber trim kit, three-spoke sport steering wheel and a new instrument cluster that goes up to 190 mph.

Inside Line says: Hamann definitely turns the X6 into a one-of-a-kind vehicle — for better or worse. — Mike Lysaght, Correspondent
